Bill R:

I am letting everyone know that the DX18 donated to the club has been sold. Our net profit is $350.00 for transmitter and receiver.

I dropped payment off to George, for deposit to the bank. Transmitter and receiver has been delivered and new owner is happy.

thanks

Bill

George Watts – Gym Flying Update:

In a normal year, we start gym flying the first week after the time changes. Unfortunately,  that will not be the case this year due to Covid.

To be clear:

We will not be flying in the gym at this time.  If that changes down the road a notification will be sent out.

I am sorry, but this cannot be helped.  We will continue to fly at the field.  I hope to see you there.

Bill R:

hobby liquidation
Hello, My name is Nathan Crawley and I am contacting your club to invite all members to an Estate Sell selling RC Planes and supporting gear.
My Father, William “Bill” Crawley passed away in Nov. 2019 and left my Brother and I items that we thought he would like to go to fellow flyers.
My Brother and I have made an attempt to go through and set out all of Dad’s RC planes and “Stuff” to sell.
We would like to invite the Hardin County RC Modelers Members to the sell. Could you please forward this invite to all Hardin County RC Modelers members?
There are too many things to list and we don’t know what half of it is anyhow. So I have attached some pictures of some of the items for sale.
We will be having the sale Saturday Oct. 17th and Sunday Oct. 18th from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day.
The sale will be at Dad’s house (4216 Final Drive, Louisville KY. 40219).
My cell number is (502) 550-6484 if you have any questions.
Regards,
Nathan Crawley

I’m leaving the spektrum RX installed. Full range RX, not the new park flyer RX that are out now. I’d like to be able to deliver it this evening if possible. Couldn’t attach a picture due to file size. Message me at williamjlorenz@gmail.com or text me at 2703048079 I’ll send you pictures. Hate to do this, but it is what it is. June 24th Minutes Clarification:

At the last meeting a number of items related to field safety and courtesy was discussed.  Each of the items discussed were brought up by multiple members since the field has reopened.  Here are a few clarification points:

1. Starting glow or small gas engines under the canopy.

Both types of motors can still be started under the canopy.  We suggest that if the pilot is going to have to run the motors for prolonged periods of time, such as breaking in or trouble shooting, just please be courteous to your fellow pilots and move out from under the canopy.

2. Taxiing in or out of the pits.

This is not a new rule we just wanted to make sure it is being observed.  After your plane is started do not let go of it until it is safely on the runway.  This includes all planes no matter the power system or size of the plane.  Do not hesitate to ask for assistance getting your plane to the runway.

Always kill the motor on the runway, do not taxi into the pits.

3. Using Spotters

The use of spotters was brought up for gas planes and everyone agreed it was a good idea.  Someone then said why not utilize spotters for all types of planes.  The vote was taken and it was unanimous that we start using spotters.  Again this is primarily in place for safety.

4. Communicating on the flight line

Please communicate with your fellow pilots on the flight line.  Such as calling take offs, landing, on the field, crossing the field and so on.  For the most part we do a good job of this.  But there has been a few close calls of late.

If anyone has any issue with any of the above or needs further clarification, do not hesitate to give me a call: 502-727-0886.

Future meetings

Any rule change or major guideline modifications will be done in a two step process in the future.  The suggested change will be voted on to be included for a final vote at the next meeting.  This way members not at the meeting where the change or addition was suggested will have the opportunity to see the suggestion in the minutes and come to the next meeting where the vote is taken.

I hope this all makes sense.  Again, give me a call if you want further clarification or bring it up at the next meeting.

All any of us want is to fly and have fun in a safe manner.

Ok hive mind, I’m at a loss. I purchased a new umx f86 from motionrc a few weeks ago. Got everything assembled tested and trimmed out. Went to go fly Saturday, plugged in the battery and nothing. No beeps, no lights in RX no nothing. All stock setup. So I go to my crashed umx f86 pull the esc and install into new umx f86, again absolutely nothing. Do I go grab a brand new esc still in the packaging plugged it in and again absolutely nothing. Not a damn thing. No beeps no sounds no lights no nothing. There is no way you can convince me that I had 3 esc go back at the exact same time. Never had this issue before. tried different new receivers with no change. Emailed motion rc but no response. Help!

Great News – Our Flying Field is About to Reopen!:

Get your batteries charged, mix some new gas, buy some new glow fuel and get those planes ready!  The flying season is getting ready to start!

I don’t know about you but I am so ready for it!

Following the guidelines set by our state government we will reopening our field this month.

A detail email announcing the date of the reopening and the guidelines we will be following will be sent out no later than Monday, May 11, 2020.

So be looking for the email.  In other good news the field is in great shape.  Al has been keeping it mowed and worked on the road.  Both look great.

George:

Greetings!

I hope all of you and your families are doing ok in these strange times we are going through.  I can’t say anything that you have not already heard 100 times before about all of this, so I will just say that I am looking forward to when we can all get back together again.  I can fly small planes off my driveway but flying by one self  is just not the same as flying with a group of friends.

Even though we cannot fly at the field at the moment, the field will be ready whenever we can go back out and fly.

Al mowed the field today and we will be on a regular mowing schedule from this point forward.  I have attached a picture of the field.  I don’t know if you can tell from the picture but Al squared the field off and mowed a higher strip of grass along the edges.   Al also graded the road and it looks great, maybe the best I have ever seen it.  All in all the field is in great shape.  Thanks Al.

A week or so ago I asked members to post pics or tell us what you are working on right now.  Please share what you are working on big or small, old or new.  We want to see what you are going!

I have attached a picture of a plane I painted for my grandson, it started as the new eFlite Air Tractor which is basically a crop duster.  He really likes the Plane movies and if any of you have seen them knows the star is a crop duster named Dusty Crophopper.  So attached is a picture of my grandson Silas’s Dusty Crophopper.

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is healthy still. Due to the covid-19 situation my family has lost over 50% of our monthly income. Paying bills and especially feeding ourselves has become s struggle at times. In an effort to try and make up a but if that lost income, my wife designed this really cool decal. It’s made from outdoor rated vinyl and can be made in the color of your choice. They are sized at around 7×5 inches. My wife is asking $2 for one. We can even mail them to the address of your choice, I’ll even throw in a complimentary Clorox wipe! Contact me thru the group message system or text me at 2703048079. Thanks for all the support and encouragement that I’ve received from EVERYONE is our club. I’ve fallen deeply in love with the hobby. Cant seem to attach the picture here, but if you check the for sale section of the clubs website you can find a picture….

Hi everyone,

George encouraged us to post something while we are in hiatus. I have finished re-attaching the landing gear of my Extra 260. I believe it was the fifth time it came off. Needless to say it wasn’t my fault, I just bounced the landing a little bit <grinning sheepishly>. I don’t have any airplanes in the process of building at the moment so I don’t have projects to share, unless cleaning the garage is a project but I doubt any body would be interested in hearing why it has taken me so long to finish it.

Greetings and be safe.

René

George:

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is doing ok.  These are definitely strange and different times right now.  But we will get through it.

Just a few club items:

1. In case you have not noticed Bill has added a for sale area to the club website.  Please use it to sell any RC items.  Thanks Bill for adding this feature.

2. We are checking on the field occasionally to see if it needs mowing.  Al and I went out a week ago and it did not need mowing at that time. I plan on checking on it tomorrow again.

3. It goes without saying will keep the field closed as long as the social distancing orders are in place.  Thanks to all the text and emails I have received from members supporting this.

4. While we are in this shutdown mode, I encourage every member to post on the communication board as much as they want to let us know how you and your families are doing and what projects you are working on right now.  With most of us staying at home more, I hope everyone is building like crazy.

5. If anyone has any ideas on anything right now about anything club related please feel free to post them or give me a call or email me:

Phone: 502-727-0886 Email: georgecwatts@gmail.com

Again, I know everyone misses flying and seeing each other, I know I sure do.  Be safe and take care of yourselves and your families.

I will post a project I just finished later today or tonight.

Thanks

George – Comment to FAA:

Yesterday AMA sent out a reminder for each of us to comment on the proposed changes the FAA is proposing that will greatly impact out hobby.

Please take the time to make a comment.  The email from AMA included a link for comment templates which can be copied and then pasted into the FAA’s website.  AMA has also included a link that takes you directly to the comment page on the FAA website.

Please follow-up and do this.  Don’t depend on everyone else to do this.

Thanks everyone.

Club Update and FAA Comment on proposed rules Changes:

Just a reminder as we voted at our last meeting the gate combination will be changed next week.  The new combination will only be sent to members who have paid their 2020 dues for both the HCRCM club and AMA.  Look for the email from our club secretary next week.

Also, I know many of you have already made a comment on the FAA website concerning the new rules that could if implemented greatly impact our hobby.  If you have not already done so, please do this by the March 2, 2020 deadline.  If you need help a number of companies including Horizon, Motion RC and the AMA have put information on their sites or via emails.  I am sure each of you have been getting the emails from these sites and other RC sites concerning this issue.

Please do this, if will only take a few minutes of your time.

Thanks.

My wife can make decals super cheap. Any size, any color. She can cut colored decals, or cut to layer vinyl for color decals. Send me examples, ideas, color, size, decals wanted, amount or needs. She can convert any image in positive or negative relief. She uses high quality permanent outdoor rated vinyl. Perfect for AMA, club/owner information decals. It’s her hobby and loves doing these. Decals come ready to apply with transfer sheet. Custom work is her favorite.

For those of you who are interested in larger rockets like went up into the sky on rocket day, this combo package is a steal. $99 bucks.

http://www.buyrocketmotors.com/aerotech-arcas-kit-29-40-120-hardware-g64-7w-reload-g76-7g-reload/?mc_cid=40fd9091d6&mc_eid=c16ac16a3e

You get a good rocket, a re-loadable motor casing (almost 65 bucks by itself) and TWO reload motors for it. Then you can save more money by ordering reloads and not whole motors (if you desire).

Gym Flying Season is Here! We start next TUESDAY, November 5th.:

Gym Flying will start next Tuesday, November 5th at 6:00 pm.   As usual we will be flying at Radcliffe Elementary School, 1145 S Dixie Blvd (31-w), Radcliff, KY 40160.

We could not get Wednesday night due to another group paying for the gym that night.

We are very lucky to get the gym for free.

Rules are the same as previous years:

– Must be an AMA member.

– Plane, Heli, drone, QUAD, etc. must be gym appropriate.

– Non HCRCM members will be allowed but they must be an AMA member.  We will check, it’s one of the stipulations of the school.

– A lease one HCRCM club member must be present for non HCRCM members to fly in the gym.

– We put the gym back like we found it, lower goals etc.

– When the last HCRCM member leaves all non members must leave at that time.

See you at the gym!

Hi all,

Rocket day 2019 is scheduled for Saturday 2 November 2019. We will begin launches at 1:00 pm and launch until dark.

We will have chili, sandwhiches and desert. Please bring your own chair and your own drinks. Of course, you can bring food if you desire.

This is our once a year rocket launch affair. Camera drones are welcome to film, but we’d prefer to let the airplanes etc. rest on this day. Of course, if you have a rocket, in any state of readiness, feel free to bring it and launch it. We’ll probably have motors and repair parts.

My address is 105 Blueball Rd, Rineyville KY 40162
My number is 270 312-1513

Please RSVP to me, Bill Rademacher @ billrad@windstream.net

Rene:

In Memory of Mike Blair

Mike and I are standing near the water by the dock at Freeman Lake. The evening is warm and humid as is typical of Kentucky in the summer. We launch our seaplanes and open the throttle smoothly. Out little seaplanes gain speed and after a couple of small bounces they lift off gracefully.

The sky is pure blue and the wind is calm. We fly in gentle circles following one another. Sometimes he leads and I follow, other times I lead and he follows. We perform no aerobatics. There are no loops, no axial rolls, no stall turns. Instead we fly smoothly around the lake making gentle turns to keep our planes within sight. In the background the trees are intensely green and dense with foliage. The mild breeze produces small waves on the water and the sun shines brightly behind our backs. Watching our seaplanes fly smoothly always brings a smile to my face. I can’t see Mike’s face yet I know he is smiling too.

I blink once and the trees are now showing off brightly colored leaves. Some are yellow, others deep brown, still others are pale red. Against the fall foliage our white seaplanes stand out when we bring them low and fly just above the water. My mind is like a camera and I take a snapshot of the planes flying together a few inches above the water, their reflections distorted by the waves. We open the throttle and they climb steadily, almost effortlessly.

I blink once more and the trees are now devoid of leaves. The winter air is cold and crisp. We should be wearing gloves but neither of us knows how to operate our transmitters with gloves on our hands, so we just tough it out since the flight only lasts seven minutes. Around the lake go our white seaplanes, their propellers almost make no sound in the dense cold air. I hear my transmitter chiming. My seven minutes are up, I cut the throttle and let my plane glide towards the water. Before it crashes I bring the nose up and it settles down softly. I taxi back to the dock and retrieve it, still smiling.

Mike keeps on flying. I watch his airplane climb so high that it is difficult to see its attitude. Surely he’ll bring it down and land soon, I think. But he keeps on flying, higher and higher until his little seaplane is just a tiny speck of white against the blue sky. I turn to talk to him but he is not there. My eyes fill with tears and I can no longer see his plane so high and so far away. In spite of my sadness I smile thinking that his spirit, like his plane, will make gentle circles forever high above the water at Freeman Lake.

George:

It is with great sadness I have to announce that long time member, officer and friend Mike Blair has passed away today.  Mike’s sister called me with the sad news.

The family will notify us with the arrangements once made.  His sister said it will be next week in all likelihood.

The other request by the family is, please no social media posts.  I know everyone in the club will follow this request.

We as a club will be organizing an event to honor and remember Mike.  More on this later.

It is a very sad day, we have lost a great friend.

Thank You:

As most of you know, my family and I made the decision to relocate back to the west coast to be closer to family.  We departed Kentucky a few days ago.  The adventure has been interrupted by a broken down moving truck but I should be back on the road shortly.
I am grateful for the opportunity to know and fly with you .  I wish the club the best and I will miss being a part of this organization.  Thank you very much for the gift.
Thanks

As we are getting ready to leave, I have realized I don’t have room for some of my RC items I intended to move.

I have a Genesis electric boat RTR including controller.  This boat runs on 2 4S 2200-2800 batteries.  If you haven’t seen it run, it is quite fast.  Asking $150.  You can see boat details at https://hobbyking.com/en_us/genesis-offshore-brushless-rc-twin-hull-1045mm.html

I also have a 4S Fun Cub with a hacker motor and floats.  The hacker motor provides tons of thrust and with unlimited vertical.  Asking $100.  Fun cub details at https://hitecrcd.com/products/airplanes/multiplex/sport/funcub/product

Thanks for looking.

April Meeting Notes and Field Update:

Minutes from April 11th meeting:

  1. Membership 30 at the time of the meeting – we had 1 addition since the meeting, current membership is 31.
  2. Treasure $1,678.98 – this is after paying the 1st half of the year mowing fee.
  3. The club put on a program for the Radcliff Elementary School.  This included an educational talk related to airplanes, RC, and general science related to our hobby, a flight demonstration, a static display of aircraft, passing out RC magazines and giving every child a foam plane.  We concluded with a question and answer session.  The program was well received and we will be invited back this summer.  A big thanks to Rene and Dave for helping set up and run the static display, Al for the magazine donation and anyone else I missed.
  4. The club approved putting gravel on top of the hill in our parking area and under the pavilion.
  5. The club voted to have a Club Cookout on June 1st.  More on this after the May meeting.
  6. The club voted to resume float flying at Freeman Lake the 3rd Wednesday of each Month starting in May.  Float fly dates: May 15, June 19, July 17, August 21 and September 18.  Get your float planes and RC boats ready.

Field Update:

  1. Ray has done a great job mowing and getting the runway and other areas mowed down and looking great.
  2. 25 tons of gravel has be delivered and spread on the main parking area, under the pavilion and behind the conex.  The gravel was paid for by an anonymous donor so the club treasury was not impacted.
  3. The road to the top of the hill has been smoothed out and the drainage ditch has been fixed.
  4. A huge thanks to Al for for bringing the equipment to fix the road and spreading the gravel.  This included grading the road and moving and spreading the gravel on top of the hill, moving the tarp under the pavilion and by the porta-can.  Additional thanks to Ray for assisting Al with this project.  If I have missed anyone please let me know.  Again, great job Al and Ray.
  5. Additional gravel will be delivered and spread once the parking area can handle the weight of the dump truck.
  6. Check out the current pictures of the field.

A few updates about our 2019 calendar:

  1.  This Wednesday March 27th will be our last indoor flying session.  Starting Wednesday April 3rd we will start flying at the field on Wednesday evenings.  Of course the field is open to flying any day to club members.
  2. We will have a club meeting at Colton’s restaurant on April 11th.  The meeting will start at 6pm as usual.  I will send out a detail agenda next week.
  3. Just and FYI, a tire collection drive is being held at the Springfield Landfill on March 28th and 29th from 8am to 3pm and on March 30th from 8am until 12 noon.   Just be aware that this will be going on these days.  We can still fly, follow our normal call in procedures.  The gate will probably be open during these times do not bother it.  If cones are blocking our driveway, move them to pull in and put them back before you drive up the hill.  Reverse this on the way out.  I will attach the announcement below.

The club will be putting on the annual program for the kids at Radcliff Elementary on Wednesday, March 27th.  We already have small foam planes to give the kids after the flight demo.  We are looking for donations of your old RC magazines to give away.  The magazines were a big hit last year.

If possible please bring them to the gym tommorow afternoon.  I will be at the gym at 5:30.   We will be there until 7:o0 pm.  If you can’t bring them to the gym give me a call and I will come pick them up.   You can reach me at 502-727-0886.

If you would like to participate give me a call.  The event starts at 3:30pm with set up starting at 2:30.  We normally do a couple of flight demonstrations and set up a static display.

Thanks.

Regarding my getting into FPV…I’m hung up on finding Goggles that work with my eyesight. It makes no difference to me to be able to wear, or not wear, my glasses with a set of Goggles, I’m just after something that gives me a sight-picture that I’m satisfied with.  Cost is secondary, my only goal is to find something that works.

The Morgan’s have a set of eachine and they’re close but need/want something better

Dave Comenzine’s Spectrum’s don’t work at all…they hurt my eyes

I’ve tried Al’s but don’t remember how they were

Al – next gym fly you come to, greatly appreciate it if you could bring them

Bill – Could you bring the one set of larger ones you modified, I think from Hobby King?, I can’t recall their view for me

Wayne – please bring your Teleporter’s to the gym next time you come

Does anyone have a set of Fat Shark Dominator FPV goggles that I can put on and see how good the view is given my eyesight?

Next Wednesday afternoon I’ll be at Scale and will try out everything they have.

Any/all help is appreciated in advance.

As per Mike’s email please be patient while we work with Sonny to try and determine who keeps locking the gate incorrectly.  There were a number of incidents last week that required Sonny to go and let people into the land field.  To my knowledge no one from the HCRCM club was at the field due to the inclement weather.

This is a perfect time of the year to do this since the flying weather is marginal and the field is soaked due to the snow.

Please feel free to call me if you have any questions.  502-727-0886.

Rocket Day 2018 is Saturday 3 November – weather permitting.  So far the forecast is favorable.

Bring your own chairs, and your own drinks. We will provide all food.

We will start around 11:00 am but normally we get moving around 12:00 or so for first launch.

If you are coming, please RSVP to billrad@windstream.net with who you are bringing, like your spouse, kids etc. We would like to have a headcount of guests attending to correctly size the amount of food.

We will be primarily launching rockets of all sizes, and a few radio controlled rockets. But you are welcome to fly foamies as well. We have plenty of room.

thanks

This Saturday, June 30th, at 11:00 we will be performing float plane flying off the old Bud’s Lake and airplane flying off a grass runway for the young men who are wards at the Life Connection in Sonora, KY. Here are the details and three maps are included.

We arrive around 11:00-11:30. If you want to eat lunch, it is already paid for. You will pull in at the lake area and park. there you can set up your shade tent, chairs, etc and prepare for float flying. I should be there early to help coordinate parking etc. The sun should be at our backs while float flying.

Later after float flying, we will move to the grass runway shown on the maps. You can drive to it or walk. I’ll probably relocate my truck and shade, etc. We will fly off the grass runway and finish the day there. I’d like to fill the afternoon from about 12:30 to 4:00 approximately. We will have a charging station set up for batteries, but please charge everything ahead of time and plan your flying so that we fill the afternoon.

The lake is plenty big for float flying, and has a really nice shore. We will have a recovery boat and a radio controlled recovery craft for any mishaps. We will also run a couple boats there, so bring whatever you like.

Later in the afternoon we will move and do flying off the grass. Feel free to fly whatever you normally fly at our field comfortably. Safety must come first at this event, so please only fly what you are fully confident with. The weather should be good with very low wind.

I am bringing a cooler of drinks for myself and I’ll have extra. There will be drinks there. Also there are bathrooms. Bring sunscreen and chairs and your shade tents.

One final note: these kids are super excited. They have had a very tough life up to now, and this is a bright spot they will never forget.

I need you to RSVP to myself or Mike B our club secretary or George Watts. So far I have Myself, George, Mike B, David C, Glenn Greenwell, Mark Vance, H Morgan and his boys,

Lets make it a day to remember for those boys. Thanks to all.  Please review the attachments included, there are three.

thanks

Bill Rademacher

Mike Borger:

Just wanted to thank those that came out to Marks Feed store last night for my farewell dinner,  it was a good time even tho a few folks couldnt make it.  Ill still be around a bit but it was the only opportunity to have a get together planned.   HCRCM will always be my home flying field, and wish nothing but the best for the club moving forward. Ill certainly visit and keep in touch after leaving at the end of July as my new adventure begins.  Now get out there and do something tricky!

Mike Borger:

Hi guys,  with my departure from the area soon, and it going to be a year before Ill have a chance to fly again maybe longer  I wanted to offer my Gen1 DX-18 up for sale within the club for $375.  My thought process on this is either I store it and wait to use it, knowing its going to be older tech by then, or just sell it so it can be used now and just replace it with whats current when I get back to flying.  Ive only had the radio about a year and most of you know its been lightly used.  Questions or interest let me know by email or 270-668-3677  I lost a lot of numbers switching to new phone so text with who is messaging is best. Thanks guys!

MBlair:

Fyi #1, I’ll be at the field on Sunday between 12-1pm in anticipation of welcoming two (2) potential new members; a Heather (and Alex) Redmon and a Norman Poynter. If you see them before I do, please welcome them into the field.  Norman (an experienced RC pilot) will likely be visiting only but Heather is essentially RTF with her not-as-new-now Hangar 9 ALPHA.

Fyi #2, in speaking with Alex, Heather’s husband, I gathered that Heather really needs some “training stick time” although she has flown her ALPHA, but with limited success per Alex as she has crashed it and Alex claims the ALPHA is once again flight-worthy.  I suspect Heather is really going to want to fly her Alpha and this is where I someone experienced with nitro to step in.  So my plan is to buddy-box my Super Miss with Heather and let her get a couple of flights with that, and then kinda turn her over to someone experienced in nitro speak with/work-with Heather (and Alex) on whatever-nitro.

So it’d be great if someone familiar with nitro was going to the at the field on Sunday.

Thanks, MBlair

Best conditions this year at the field.  No wind to a light breeze right down the runway.  Just maidened the Avanti.  Plenty of power for grass. Still shaking like a leaf.

While out at the field this morning waiting on the porta can people, I noticed the extra mowing and the new sign at the entrance.  Which means I owe Al an apology for not thanking him for helping with the flyin.  Sorry Al.  I blame the omission on my lack of sleep and jet lag at the time.  That’s my excuse anyway.

Thanks Al and please accept my apology.

I hope I have not missed anyone else.

Great Flyin Today.

I hope everyone who came out today had a great time.  I am not sure what the final count was but  we had great participation from the club members and had a few non members show up as well.  Thanks for coming out!

I want to especially thank Bill for all the great food.  Everything was great Bill!   Thank you to Jim, Mike, Ray and anyone else who helped for this event to come together, great job.     I apologize if I have missed anyone who helped,  Bill, Mike, chime-in if I have missed anyone.

As Bill mentioned in his pilot meeting, please remember what this weekend is really about and take time to thank any veteran you know or see.

A big thank you to all of our club members who are veterans who helped make all the freedoms we take advantage of everyday possible!  Thanks to each one of you!  Your are appreciated!

Have a safe holiday weekend!

FYI for anyone going to the field between now and Saturday

For Saturday’s event, Sonny (Landfill Mgr) has put up cones to block the roadway leading to the back of the Landfill. This will deter anyone from driving straight and more importantly it will allow us to leave the gate open during the event.

Leaving the gate open is for Saturday ONLY so please continue our usual practice of keeping the gate closed at all times when visiting the field.

  • The painting of the flight line rails and all the metal and wood poles is compete.  Mike B. spray painted all the metal poles and rails, Mike, Rene and myself painted the wood poles.
  • With the flightline painting completed, we are ready to put the safety/tennis nets back up.  Weather permitting it would be great to get that completed tomorrow night.  Dave, Al, Bill or anyone else planning on being there tomorrow please bring tools to help.  I will bring mine.
  • If we can not get the nets up tomorrow, we will plan on a fly / work day Saturday as Sunday is Mother’s Day.  People usually have commitments that day.
  • Not sure who put it up but a big thanks to whoever put up the wood bee trap under the pavilion.

Thanks to everyone who has helped getting all this work completed.   Great Job!

Mike Childers (New Member):

I just purchased a Spektrum Dx9 in effort to start upgrading from my old 72 Mhz radio equipment. I have some smaller planes (36 to 44 inch) with micro receivers in them and I’d like to start upgrading the receivers with new 2.4 GHz micro receivers – any recommendations on which one to get – I only need 3-4 channels for these planes.

Also – as I upgrade these, and my larger planes, I’d like to keep my Futaba servos. Is there any compatibility issues with using the Spektrum receivers with Futaba servos??

I’ve been out of R/C for a long, long time and things have changed – a lot!

Fyi, I just spoke to Sonny Ashlock, he expects to be at the field gate at approximately 5pm today to put our lock back into the daisy-chain of locks. I plan to be back around that time also just to ride up to the field.

At some time today, in re-locking the gate, someone has accidentally bypassed our combo-lock leaving ours out of the loop, and just locked to another lock.

Also, a friendly reminder, please be sure and ALWAYS scramble the gate code. I found the numbers sitting on our combination.

JoAnn’s had a very limited selection of plywood pieces but they did have a small $1.80 8-pc pack of 1/16″ wood tags” (the Accents package in the attached pic) that are a plywood and they’ll work good for a firewall on smaller models.

But Michael’s was the better find — they had a good selection of 1/8″ and 1/4″ Birch plywood in several sizes (strip like pieces, 12″x12″, and I think 12″x30?” pieces. I picked up 12″x12″ pieces of both sizes.

So problem solved, Thanks for the suggestions!!

Anyone know of a local store that sells 1/16″ or 1/8″ plywood…and not Balsa but try plywood?  For making a firewall for small-to-large scratch-build foamies.

I’ve already checked Home Depot, and Hobby Lobby and none of them carry plywood this thin.

For what it’s worth to anyone, I’ll be going to the Skyliners Swap Meet this Saturday.  I said last night at gym flying that I wasn’t going but the timing of another engagement is going to work out just fine, probably be 10:30-11am when I get there.

Hi folks,

It was a great meeting last night. It was great to get back on track and gain momentum.  One thing that was discussed was that I will repaint a new sign in memory of our founder Bob Clagett, He taught  me oil painting so this is a great honor for me.  A new sign will be made with help from Ray followed by Me taking time to paint.  What I forgot to ask last night is does anyone object to me using some of our funds to purchase paints and materials needed to complete this task?  I don’t have an estimate currently, I’m looking up a certain type of paint that will hold up to the uv and weather much better.  Input much appreciated.    Thanks

All,

I have been contacted by Dan Corley, Math instructor of EC3, a program next to ECTC. He has a class that has two (2) two hour blocks of time. He would like us to come and do a show and tell / fly indoors, outdoors etc. Anything we want. We can use all the time or some of the time. Two classes, so two hours available in the morning, and repeat in the afternoon.

I need to know if anyone is motivated to do this. I would take a day off to do it. Their website is     http://hcsec3.com/

let me know soon if you can. I will find out the days etc.
